Elizabeth C. Scharmann, known to her friends as Betty, passed away on February 6, 2016 at age 94 in Boca Raton. Betty was born on April 20, 1921, the daughter of Howard and Emily Carpenter of Brooklyn, NY. On September 14, 1946, she married Fred L. Scharmann (deceased) in Elizabeth, NY.

Betty is survived by her sister Joan Brower (Rev. Ray) of Boca Raton and pre-deceased by her brother Dr. Robert Carpenter (May) of California. Betty is also survived by her four children Robert Scharmann (Sandy), Ruth Bubar (Steve), Marion Shepherd, Richard Scharmann (Kathy), eleven grand-children and eleven great grand-children. Betty was a beloved mother, grand-mother, great grand-mother, sister and friend.

Betty attended Battin High School in Elizabeth, NJ and graduated from Katherine Gibbs in NYC in 1940. As a faithful wife and companion, she supported her husband’s ministry with Word of Life for 26 years. Moving to Florida in 1972, Fred and Betty started working for Boca Raton Community Church. Betty retired in 2002 after 30 years of serving the Lord as a bookkeeper at the church. In August 2003, Betty moved to St. Andrews Estates South, a life-care retirement community, in Boca Raton.

A beautiful lady with a sweet spirit. Her children (grand-children and great grand-children) rise up and call her blessed. To know Betty, your life was touched. Thanks for allowing God’s light to shine through you to brighten our world for 94 wonderful years.

Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.
