Kristen Lee (Virostek) Rojas

Kristen L. Virostek Rojas passed away on September 28, 2016 while hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston Florida.

Kristen was born in 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the second child of three children.  The Virostek’s moved to Boca Raton in the late 1960's, where Kristen enjoyed her childhood.   She attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic School and Pope John Paul II High School, where she graduated in 1984.  She attended Bowling Green University in Ohio, and finished her bachelor’s degree at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.  In 2014 she completed her doctorate in Education at Lynn University.  She also taught for more than 20 years in the Palm Beach County Public School system, where she earned distinction among the faculty through her work in the English as a second language program.

Two things defined Kristen.  First, Kristen was the consummate teacher.  When she decided on teaching as her profession in her early 20’s, she committed herself not only to learning the art and skill of teaching, but to focus her commitment to teaching those most in need.  In the Palm Beach County School System, she taught English as a second language.  In her spare time, she taught in literacy programs for adult learners, helping those in need, and once those were helped, required them to return the favor to someone else in need.  Through her vocation, she made her community a better place to be because she saw how education and knowledge can help any person, regardless of their station in life.

Second, Kristen was blessed to give birth to her son, Dominic. From that day forward Kristen single handedly, with the assistance of her close family, devoted her remaining life to raising Dominic.  With all the love and nurturing that a mother provides, and the discipline she honed as an educator, she taught Dominic the foundations of his faith, shared her passion for serving others, particularly the less fortunate, instilled her competitiveness in sports, and passed along to him her zest for life and laughter. 

Kristen is survived by her parents, her son Dominic, her brother, her sister and seven nieces and nephews.  

A visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Monday, October 10 at Glick Family Funeral Home.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 11 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.  Entombment will follow at the Boca Raton Mausoleum.
