Alan Carlisle Alford

Alford, Alan C. of Boca Raton passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at home surrounded by the love of his family. 

Al was born in Mineola on August 4, 1931; he lived in New York during his childhood and moved to Florida to attend the University of Miami following his honorable discharge from the US Navy.  He graduated with a degree in Business Administration and immediately became involved in the city government of Boca Raton.   Mr. Alford held the offices of Assistant City Manager, City Manager and Mayor.  Mr. Alford was instrumental in the purchase of beach property and public parks around Boca Raton.  He spent his political career dedicating himself to preserving open spaces for the city of Boca.   After his term as Mayor, he opened his own financial planning firm, Alford and Associates, where he worked until his retirement.  Mr. Alford continued his involvement for the city of Boca Raton as a city council member for many years as well as a Park Ranger working within the parks and city that he loved.

Al is survived by his wife and life partner of 59 years, Helen Lenore Alford; two sons and two daughters: James Marcus Alford, Dawn Lenore Zook, Gregg Alan Alford and Patricia Mabel Washam; daughters-in-law Eileen Alford & Alice Wylie; sons-in-law Morgan M. Zook, Jr & Mark Washam. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and William Lockwood; Sister/Brother-in-Laws Thomas and Jacqueline McCullough and Florence and James Bell, his cherished 11 grandchildren: Laura Alford (Greg) Fryman, James Alan Alford, Parker Alan Alford, Amanda Kathryn Zook, Ashley Morgan Zook, Morgan Musser Zook III, Amelia Lenore Zook, Michael Steven Washam, Andrew Mark Washam, Tori Jacqueline Washam, Austin Alan Washam; and many loving nieces and nephews .  

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, October 15 at Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 16 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Boca Raton.

Memorial remembrances may be made to Trustbridge’s Hospice by the Sea (hbts.org) and/or St. Paul Lutheran Church (stpaulboca.com).
