Just a brief history:

Jack Reid was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on November 9, 1926 and grew up there as well.  After graduation from high school he joined the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman serving his four years and leaving to get an undergraduate degree in chemistry.  He the re-entered the Navy, going to flight school in Pensacola, FL  and became a Naval Aviator.  He spent six additional years as a pilot and it was during this time that he met our mom, Virginia, when she was attending William and Mary earning a degree in education.  Leaving the Navy he attended the University of South Dakota Medical School and at the same time completed a Masters in Pharmacology.  USD only had a two year med school so after coming home for lunch one day in June, he found mom crying because it had snowed and all the clothes froze on the line, so we were off to the University of Miami to complete his training.  From there he went back into the Navy for an internship at NAS Jacksonville, FL.  He was offered a residency in Orthopedics, which declined to be closer to Mom’s brother and two young kids.  He practiced general medicine for 10 years, working 24/7 and helping anyone regardless of their ability to pay.  He sewed up many a friend when our pick-up tackle football (no pads) got a little rough and minor surgery in the kitchen was not uncommon.  Later he completed a residency in Anesthesia and practiced Anesthesia and critical care, and was Medical Director for Respiratory Care at both BRCH and BMH..

After retirement Mom and Dad  spent winters in the Florida Keys and Summers in Blairsville, GA and you know the rest of the story.

Overall he helped a lot of people and had a pretty good life.

Thanks everyone for remembering Dad.
