Ali R. Ghahramani, MD

Ali R. Ghahramani, M.D. of Boca Raton, Florida passed away of illness-related complications, with his family by his side on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. He is survived by his children, Suzanne Fleming (Jeff), Andrew, and Darius; his grandchildren, Ali and Jack.

Dr. Ghahramani was born on November 10, 1930 in Shiraz, Iran. He graduated from Alborz College in Tehran and received his medical degree from the University of Tehran Medical School in 1956, where he ranked #1 in the class. For two years following, he served the Persian Army Medical Corps and then the World Health Organization from 1958 to 1959. He then left Iran for a postgraduate scholarship at the University of Liverpool in England, completing his residency at the Royal Infirmary there. Leaving England with his L.M.S.S.A. degree received in London, he relocated to the United States. He was a resident in medicine at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and received his Fellowship at John Hopkins University.   Dr. Ghahramani subsequently moved to Miami, Florida where he completed a Fellowship and Senior Fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital.  After a year at Mount Sinai Hospital, he became a teaching associate at the University of Miami and as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital, as the Associate Director of the Cardiac Lab.  In 1976 to 2003, he was the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at North Ridge Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale, serving as President of the North Ridge Heart Institute.  After North Ridge Hospital closed, he continued his private practice using the Holy Cross Hospital.  

Through the years, Dr. Ghahramani was a member of numerous medical societies, received much recognition, and was well-published.  He was assigned by The White House to President Reagan on his visit to Florida as his attending physician, should he have needed one.  In 2001-2002, he was appointed to the to the Governor's Task Force on Women and Heart Disease.   Dr. Ghahramani served as the Program Director for more than 30 years for the annual Cardiovascular Symposium that attracted legends and icons in the field of cardiology from around the world to discuss new medical frontiers in all aspects of the human heart.   At the end of his career this past April, he had done almost 50,000 cardiac catheterizations.  

"Dr. G", as he was often called, will best be remembered for his pioneering spirit in the field of cardiology; for his compassion and dedication to his patients, family, friends, and colleagues; and for his ability to use kindness and laughter as an elixir for life.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, 5555 North Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale at 1:00pm.  Burial will follow at Boca Raton Cemetery.  The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Glick Family Funeral Home, 3600 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton.
