Cynthia Cardenas, 47, of Pompano Beach died May 27, 2014. She was born April 22, 1967 at JFK Hospital in Atlantis, FL to the late Helen Travis and Robert Gerald Dykas. She grew up in West Palm and upon graduating high school became a Certified Nursing Assistant. Cynthia then worked for several years as an interpreter at a school for the deaf and blind in Apopka, Fl. At the time of her death she was living in Pompano Beach.
Cynthia was a loving wife and mother. She had a passion for cooking that she was able to share with others through hosting cooking classes. Additionally, she enjoyed gardening and used vegetables and herbs from her garden in creating her dishes. She also loved animals, particularly dogs and frogs. Cynthia recently discovered her love of massage therapy and became a licensed massage therapist, which she was very excited about.
Cynthia is survived by her husband Luis Cardenas, her daughters Jennifer-Lauren Costello, Kailey Costello, and Marisa Crate, stepson Luis Cardenas, sisters Cheryl Smith, and Hailey Dykas-Tobe, and brothers Robert Dykas, and Leon Dykas. She was preceded in death by her sister Chrysten Dykas.
A visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on Friday, June 6 at the Glick Family Funeral Home where a funeral service will begin at 6:00 pm. A private burial will be held Saturday June 7.
Considering Cynthia’s great love of dogs and animals the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be sent to the Humane Society of Broward County. Donations can be made online through their website.
