With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Walter Lentz on January 19, 2024, at the age of 67. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Walter grew up in North Miami Beach, Florida, and later laid down roots in Boca Raton, where he raised a loving family. His life was an extraordinary tapestry of resilience, profound love, and an unyielding spirit.
Walter, affectionately known as Walt, was a man of immense character and unwavering determination. A self-made individual and a gentleman of the highest degree, he carved out a life characterized by hard work, resilience, and a deep appreciation for life's finer aspects. His formidable battle against melanoma was a true testament to his indomitable spirit, with his sheer will and steadfast determination playing a pivotal role in overcoming this challenging phase of life. Walter's warmth, love for a good bourbon, and his penchant for quality in every aspect of life were the hallmarks of his vibrant personality. His infectious smile, sly grin, and deep, resonant laughter were his trademarks, bringing light and joy to any room.
Walt's approach to life was one of passion and wholehearted commitment. He had an impeccable taste, which was evident in everything from his choice of spirits to the cherished moments he spent with his loved ones. However, Walter’s appreciation for the finer things in life was dwarfed by his compassion for life, his practical wisdom, and his strong sense of justice. Walt frequently went well out of his way to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of his family, friends, and strangers. Despite overcoming substantial hardship and achieving success in life, it was this habit of seemingly effortless goodwill towards others that he was most proud of.
As a devoted single father, Walter raised four children – Melanie, Jenna, Marc, and Eric – instilling in them the values of hard work and dedication. He meticulously directed the building of a beautiful home in Boca Raton, a lifelong project which served as a sanctuary of love and care for more than three decades, reflecting his discerning taste for design, a cultivation of tranquil spaces, his love of art, and his deep commitment to his family. Walt was also a stellar athlete and a superb tennis player. He won the Junior Orange Bowl International Championship at 14 years in 1971, and he continued masterfully playing tennis well into his early 60s, dominating the field against players half his age. A passionate sports enthusiast, Walt held a special place in his heart for football, especially for the Miami Dolphins. His love for the team was a vivid expression of his zest for life. Even in his final moments, sharing a Dolphins game with his children brought him immense joy and enthusiasm. He was even more passionate about his family's pursuits, being his children's most ardent supporter. He fervently cheered them on in all their academic, athletic, and personal achievements. His unwavering support and pride in their successes were foundational to their close-knit family life.
Walter is lovingly remembered by his mother, Ann; his sister, Mia and nephew, Brandon; his children, Melanie, Jenna, Marc, and Eric; and his adored grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought immense joy and fulfillment to his life.
As we bid a heartfelt farewell to Walter Lentz, we celebrate a life lived with unmatched passion, bravery, and an indomitable spirit. His memory will continue to be a beacon of light and inspiration for all who had the privilege of knowing him. Walter's legacy of love, strength, kindness, enduring support, and his beautiful home will forever remain in our hearts.
