Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and kind soul, Walter Leroy Anderson Jr., passed away gracefully on April 27th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Bangor, ME. on November 9th, 1950, Walter is the son of Walter Anderson Sr. and Jessie Donna Anderson.
In his formative years, Walter excelled in competitive gymnastics, football, and his true love automotive racing. Walter was one of the firstly invited racers in the Skip Barber Racing School.
Walter proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, stationed aboard the USS Newman K. Perry, as a sonar-technician, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal in the Vietnam War.
In 1977, Walter and Mercedes moved to South Florida, where he worked in Computer Securities at IBM and Hewlett-Packard. He was an active member of the Boca Raton community, a member of St. Paul Lutheran church and school board member, proudly coaching youth basketball at Boca Hoops.
Even in his afterlife, Walter continued to find ways to help others, offering himself as a Registered Brain Donor to the University of Miami’s -Miller School of Medicine, in hopes of finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 47-years, Mercedes Anderson, his son, David Anderson, his daughter’s family, Melissa Anderson, her husband, Brendan Sangerman and Walter’s grandson, Zion Sangerman, alongside Ronald Jean and his daughter, Addison Jean, his sisters, Mary (Kevin) Crocker, Cheryl (George) Foster and brother, Doug (Sandy) Anderson. Mercedes' sister, Melva (Roscoe) Kent, preceded in death by Gerald C. Mangawang.
His laugh, gentle nature, kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness will be remembered for all time and his memory will continue to live on in our hearts and minds.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Saturday, May 3rd with a Gathering at 11AM and a Funeral Service beginning at 12PM at Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton, FL. The family will have a celebration of life and burial at Gordon Cemetery as his final resting place in Searsport, ME.
