Virginia Anne Christakis Obituary

Virginia Anne Christakis, nee Collom, passed away at the age of 78 on June 17, 2021, with her two adoring daughters by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband Panagiotis “Peter” Christakis just 6 months earlier and survived by her daughters Katina and Melina, her sons-in-law Tim and Jeff, her 3 grandchildren Sydney, Johnny and Christian, her sisters Sybil and Diane, her brother David as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Virginia, called “Ginny” by those who knew her, was born in New Haven, Connecticut on May 9, 1943. Raised in Laval, Quebec, Virginia met her husband Peter in 1963, marrying in 1964 and moving to New York City where she worked at the J.C. Penney headquarters in mid-town Manhattan.

Returning to Montreal 2 years later, Virginia and Peter welcomed their first daughter, Katina in 1967 followed by younger sister Melina in 1971. In 1973, they once again moved back to New York and settled in Queens for the next 16 years. Virginia was a doting stay-at-home mom, returning to the retail workforce in the late 80’s. In 1989, the family moved back to Canada, where Virginia helped her husband run the family restaurant from 1989-1996.

Looking for a more relaxed lifestyle and warmer weather, the family migrated south to Boynton Beach, Florida where Virginia worked in retail for another decade before retiring to spend more time with her new grandchildren, while helping Peter run The Friendly Greek restaurant in Lantana until 2015.

Virginia enjoyed traveling and cruising, making several trips to her husband’s homeland in Greece as well as trips to Italy, Alaska, the Caribbean, Las Vegas, California and cities up and down the east coast. She adored going to the movies, shopping at Town Center mall, watching the New York Rangers, eating out, spending time at the beach, and big Broadway musicals. She was happiest though simply being with her daughters and grandchildren, even if it was just going for an iced latte and some conversation.

She will be missed dearly by her children, grandchildren, siblings and all who had the joy of knowing her.

A funeral service will be held at First Baptist of Boynton Beach on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 1:00 pm followed by burial at Boca Raton City Cemetary where she will be laid to rest with her husband of 56 years.
