Thomas “Tim” Brian Burnich, 79, of Highland Beach, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022.
Thomas, son of John & Catherine Burnich, was born on May 27, 1942, in Youngstown, OH where he attended parochial school for 8 years. In 1956 he moved with his parents to Florida and attended North Miami Senior High and graduated in 1960. After High School Tim attended Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, OH and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1965. After College Tim started working for Eaton Corporation and was transferred to Kenosha, WI where he worked in purchasing as a tooling buyer.
In 1968 Tim was drafted into the United States Army and was sent to Vietnam where he served in the Headquarters of the 12th Evacuation Hospital in CuChi, Vietnam and provided medical support for the 25th Infantry Division. He served as an enlisted man and attainted the rank of Spec 4.
After Vietnam he returned to Ohio and became involved in the apartment business. He purchased a 14- unit apartment complex that he managed and rented. Later he was Treasurer of Waldon Management Corporation and Walco Construction Corporation and helped developed 3 apartment communities totaling 968 apartments. He managed them for 10 years and is still a partner in 2 of them today.
Member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Youngstown, Ohio where his maternal grandparents were married in 1913 and he married Elizabeth in 1982.
Thomas worked for Cafaro Corporation in Youngstown, OH, Balcor Corporation in Skokie, IL and August Financial Corporation of Long Beach, CA where he established Mid-West office in Chicago as the Vice President and oversaw the management of 29 properties in 6 states including office buildings, shopping centers, and apartment communities.
With the Savings and Loan crisis Thomas, and his wife Elizabeth, moved to Florida full time in 1991 and he worked for GFS Management in Boynton Beach and then Denholtz Associates in West Palm Beach as the Director of Leasing for shopping centers and office buildings. Five years later he became licensed as a Condominium Manager and managed a property in Highland Beach before retiring in 1976.
Thomas served as Chairman of the Town of Highland Beach Code Enforcement Board for several terms.
Thomas is survived by his wife Elizabeth Burnich (Roman), his brother Dr. John Jeffrey Burnich, MD (Maria) of Fairfield, CA and his 2 daughters, Danielle Burnich-Line (Eric) and Stephanie Burnich, of Oakland, CA. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Dr. Gary Scavnicky, PhD, of Novi, MI & Englewood, FL, his wife’s 3 nieces, Tania Scavnicky of Ferndale, MI, Ileana Reich (Donald) of Englewood, FL, and Elizabeth Scavnicky of Northfield, MI.
A visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 PM on Friday, April 29 at Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton where a Funeral Service with Military Honors will begin at 1:30PM. Entombment will follow at The Gardens Memorial Park in Boca Raton.
