Theckudukath Koshy Obituary

Theckudukath Daniel Koshy, a cherished soul and remarkable spirit, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024, at the age of 88 in Delray Beach, Florida, surrounded by his close family. Known to many as Daniel, his life was defined by warmth, intelligence, and an insatiable curiosity that left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Daniel was born in Venmony, Kerala State, India, on September 3, 1936, to Theckudukath Daniel Nainan and Saramma Veppumthara, the third of five siblings. He completed his higher secondary education at Union Christian College in Aluva, Kerala, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (B.Tech.) from Nagpur University in 1960.

On August 30, 1962, he married Achamma George, now a retired Montessori teacher. Later that year, Daniel immigrated to the United States to pursue graduate studies. He earned his MSc in Chemical Engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, in 1966.

Daniel began his career as a chemical engineer with the Linde Division of Union Carbide in Greater Buffalo, New York. His work took him and his family abroad, living in Düsseldorf, Germany, and later Antwerp, Belgium, between 1973 and 1974. In 1977, he joined Norton Company in Stow, Ohio, where he worked until his retirement at the age of 62. A passionate researcher, Daniel contributed to scientific publications and held several patents.

An avid reader with a thirst for knowledge, Daniel always kept up with current events, engaging deeply in the world around him. In his free time, he pursued his love for studying Syriac, the ancient liturgical language of the Syrian Christians of Kerala, India, and was a devoted student of Church history. His intellectual curiosity spanned many subjects, and his love for learning was a hallmark of his life.

Following his retirement, Daniel and Achamma moved to Delray Beach, Florida, in 2015 to be closer to their beloved grandchildren, whom he adored.

With a mind forever curious, Daniel was a man of immense intellect and deep reflection. Whether through his professional achievements or thoughtful conversations with friends and family, his wisdom and dignity were evident to all. Those who knew him will remember his gentle demeanor, his kindness, and the genuine interest he took in the lives of others.

Yet, alongside his intellect, Daniel possessed a wonderful sense of humor.  His wit and clever remarks were a natural extension of his sharp mind and warm spirit, leaving a lasting mark on everyone he encountered. Whether through wisdom or laughter, Daniel’s presence was a gift to all who knew him.

A service to honor Theckudukath Daniel Koshy’s extraordinary life will be held on September 21, 2024, at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, 100 NE Mizner Blvd, Boca Raton, FL 33432, officiated by Rev. Andrew Sherman. A public viewing will take place at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family will gather to celebrate a life well lived, to mourn his passing, and to reflect on the many memories and lessons he leaves behind.

He will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. Daniel is survived by his beloved wife Achamma of 62 years, his son George, daughter-in-law Sonal, and his grandchildren Aanya and Alexander. He is predeceased by his son, Daniel.
