Susan Kost Murphy
July 17, 1945- December 10, 2025
Susan Kost Murphy of Boca Raton, Florida passed away at home surrounded by family on December 10, 2025, from complications of Crohn’s Disease. Susan was born on July 17, 1945, in Jamaica, New York with her identical twin sister Monica to the late John and Auguste Kost. She earned her Registered Nurse diploma from Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. Classmates described her as a joyful, caring, and smart nurse. She prided herself on offering patient education to her patients, so they were informed of their treatment plan and felt safe and empowered in her care. She had the opportunity to work in various care settings including hospitals, home health, and public schools. She concluded her nursing career at Boca Raton Community Hospital in telemetry. She left an indelible impression on colleagues and patients alike.
Susan was an optimist and had a playful and kind nature. She traveled the world with her husband, and enjoyed learning about other cultures, particularly tasting new cuisines. She was an accomplished cook and baker and enjoyed hosting holiday dinners and decorating her home festively. As a young mother she was an avid volunteer with her children’s activities from running the little league concession stand to being a Brownie Troop leader. She enjoyed gardening, cross stitching, and was an avid reader.
Her family was of the upmost importance to her. She is survived by her husband, William; her children, Daniel, Marianne, and Timothy; her daughter-in-law, Ana; her grandsons, Joseph and Colin; her sisters, Loretta Callopy, Maryann Sande, Virginia Nasser, and Janice Clifford; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Byrne, Mary Sieredzinski, Rosemary Murphy, and Virginia Murphy; brothers-in law, Matthew Byrne, Joseph Clifford, John Murphy, Robert Nasser, Joseph Sande, and Joseph Siredzinski; 28 nieces and nephews, and beloved friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Auguste Kost, her stepmother, Muriel Kost; her sisters, Monica Elliott and Rita Peterson; her brother, Robert Kost, and her brothers-in-law, James Callopy, Robert Elliott, Richard Murphy, and Ralph Peterson.
Cremated by her wishes, a private celebration of life luncheon will be held to honor a life well lived.
