Stephen Lee Roderick

Stephen Lee Roderick, 82, passed away surrounded by his family at Trustbridge Hospice in Boca Raton, Florida on January 20th, 2025.

Steve was born April 29th, 1942, to Delbert and Betty Roderick-Townsend in Goshen, Indiana. He graduated from Milford High School with a passion for sports, after which he attended Ball State University Teacher’s College as a student member of the Varsity golf team. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1964. Steve went on to teach in Syracuse, Indiana, leading classes on civics and government while also coaching basketball and golf. He was an avid golfer and played at every opportunity.

His love of golf led him to become the head golf professional at South Shore Country Club, in Syracuse, Indiana.  This is where Steve would meet his wife, Mary Ellen Denton, and they married in 1965. Soon after, he gave up teaching to become the Country Club’s golf professional and Pro-Shop owner, while he and Mary Ellen raised their family.  In1971 Steve was inducted into the Professional Golfers Association.

In 1977, Steve accepted a position in South Florida as Golf Professional and instructor at Deer Creek Country Club and in 1980 his family joined him as year-round residents. He kept this position until 2007, after which he worked at the Palm Beach Golf Center until his retirement in 2017.

Steve was a supportive, devoted husband, a wonderful dad, and beloved grandfather. He was passionate about his work and his civic duties, in which he remained active for many years. He was a man who always kept his strength, patience, and good humor throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen; his brother Thomas J. Roderick, his daughter Cathleen, son-in-law Kyle Duffey, and granddaughter Brittany; his son Anthony James Roderick and daughter-in-law LoriAnn. Arrangements have been made for family and friends by Glick Family Funeral Home with interment at Boca Raton Mausoleum within the City of Boca Raton Cemetery.
