Solomon L. Schwartz, 96, passed away on May 14, 2025. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, grew up in South Philly and spent most of his adult life in South Florida. He served in the Army and was stationed in Japan, after which he earned a Bachelor’s degree and PhD in Psychology at Temple University.
Sol married Sydelle Unger in Miami Beach in 1956 and had two daughters, Betsy Murray and Midge Seltzer. Sol was a successful industrial psychologist in Miami, Florida. In addition to his family, Sol dedicated his life to philanthropy. Just a few of his volunteer activities included working with Boca Helping Hands where he was the lead volunteer coordinator for many years, chairing fun runs for charity in Dade County, and being president of a local Optimist club dedicated to community service focused on benefiting children and providing scholarships.
Further, Sol was an integral part of his adopted home at Edgewater in Boca Raton where he championed the scholarship fund for employees, provided history lectures for the residents, was president of the local Florida Life Care Residents Association (FLCRA), interviewed new residents and employees for the newsletter and helped wherever he could be useful.
Sol and Sydelle’s passion for travel took them around the world, visiting over 100 countries.
Sol is survived by his daughters, his grandchild Liam Seltzer, his brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Nancy Unger, son-in-law Kirk Murray, sister-in-law Roslyn Unger, nephew Matthew Unger and his wife Erica, nieces Rebecca Unger, Hilary Unger, and Maureen and Gary Tucker.
