Sarah Singh Obituary

Sarah Leonard Singh

September 28, 1934 – January 20, 2025

In the Care of Glick Funeral Home

Sarah Leonard Singh, known to her family and friends as Sally, was a beloved wife, devoted mother, adoring grandmother, loving sister, cherished aunt, and a loyal friend to all who knew her.

Sally passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 20, 2025, at the age of 90.

She was born on September 28, 1934, in Los Angeles, CA, to Rachel Warrington and James Leonard. She was the third of six siblings, Jens (Jim) and Thomas (Tommy) Rosenkrantz, Michael (Mike) and Susan (Susie) Leonard, and Ellen Pease. Sally grew up in a prominent Cincinnati, family, the Warringtons, and graduated from Hillsdale School in 1952.

Sally received a Bachelor of Arts in Southeast Asian Studies and Sanskrit from the University of Pennsylvania. She was Phi Beta Kappa her junior year and graduated with highest Honors.

Sally married Amar Singh on June 29, 1957, in New Delhi, India. They moved to Bombay sharing a life filled with adventure and devotion to each other and their children: Karun, Sharda, Natasha, and Nikhil. They had an active social life where long-lasting friendships were made. Sally loved living in India and immersed herself there, leading to a productive and fulfilling life. Further, she became proficient in eight oral and written languages during this time. In 1970 Sally contracted Polio which rendered her quadriplegic and on a ventilator. She became one of the longest-living survivors of polio, living with a ventilator for 55 years until her death. Throughout her life, Sally never allowed her disability to define her. Her tenacity and courage in the face of adversity was inspiring. Her unwavering determination became a source of strength for herself and everyone around her.

In 1986, Sally and Amar moved back to the United States and lived in Bryn Mawr, PA. Returning to Pennsylvania, where Sally had met Amar many years earlier, marked a full circle in her journey. In the U.S., she was able to thrive with the support of family, friends, caregivers and had access to abundant medical resources. This allowed her to live independently and achieve much in her long and fulfilling life.

Sally was a true advocate for education; she set an example for her children by earning a Master of Arts in Theology in her 50s focused on Disabilities Studies and Theology from Villanova University.  Additionally, Sally began a Doctoral program in Comparative Theology and World Religions at Temple University.

Soon after the passing of Amar in 2002, Sally moved to Boca Raton, FL, to be closer to Natasha and her family. There, she embraced life, nurturing her spiritual journey by attending church daily and growing deeper in her faith. She developed friendships within her new church, finding comfort and support in the shared faith and connection with others. Sally also enjoyed the warmer climate, often spending time outdoors or engaging in local events that allowed her to stay active and involved with her volunteer activities.

Throughout all of this, Sally’s ability to stay engaged and positive was due in large part to the devoted care of her caregiver for the last 36 years, Kathleen Sweeny, whose friendship, love, and nurturing support knew no bounds right up until the end. Our family is eternally grateful to Kathleen.

Sally is survived by her children, Karun, Sharda, Natasha, and Nikhil, along with her daughters-in-law, Moira and Linh; son-in-law Angelos; grandchildren, Mikhaela, Gabriella, Nicholas, Sofia, Alexa, and Dominic; her sister Susan; and her loyal caregiver, Kathleen. We will miss Sally tremendously. Sally was a woman of extraordinary courage and strength, an inspiration, and a source of support to everyone whose lives she touched with the light of her love. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Memorial Service Mass in her honor will be held on Friday, February 14th, at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 22094 Lyons Road, Boca Raton, FL.
