Ruth Ronan, 93, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on May 21, 2026.
She was born on December 23, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Charles and Isabelle Gilles, and graduated from Upper Darby High School.
When she first laid eyes on her beloved husband Edward J. Ronan, she said, "I'm going to marry that man." And she did. Together, they moved to Boca Raton in 1965 and set down roots. They founded Ronan Realty, one of the oldest continuously operating real estate companies in Boca Raton, and had four children, all of whom still live in Boca.
Ruth was quick-witted and independent until the end — an avid bridge player, a lover of movies, and a regular at the gym three times a week. She was a fantastic cook who set the standard for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, and was a member of the Antiques Club of Boca Raton for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Ronan, Jr., and is survived by her children, Marcella Schwencke Weldon and her husband Gifford; Edward Ronan III and his wife Maria; Kenneth Ronan; and Matthew Ronan and his wife Lois.
Her grandchildren, Matthew (Kristen) Schwencke, John (Catherine) Schwencke, Ken (K.R. Drake) Schwencke, Katie (Rodney) Trafford, Sean Ronan, Michael Ronan, Sarah Ronan, Jack Ronan, Jesse Ronan, Joseph Ronan, Jett Ronan, and Josh Ronan.
And her great-grandchildren, Ella Schwencke, John "Jack" Schwencke, Elizabeth Trafford, and Charlie Trafford.
Services and visitation will be held at Glick Funeral Home in Boca Raton on Thursday, May 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Private burial to follow.
