Ruth Dyer Kersey passed away on November 7, 2025, at age 88. She was born in Tampa, Florida, on October 5, 1937, the daughter of Thomas A. Dyer and Eva Wheeler Dyer. She attended local schools in Tampa, graduating from Plant High School. She majored in journalism and communications at the University of Florida, graduating with honors in 1959. While at UF she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, was selected for the Homecoming Court, and served on the University Honor Court.
On June 27, 1959, she married Dr. Harry A. Kersey Jr. Her husband’s work and research took them to many countries, including extended periods of living in Lesotho, Southern Africa; London, England; and Wellington, New Zealand. They also spent over 22 summers in Honolulu, HI.
In Boca Raton she was a long standing member of the First Presbyterian Church (now Grace Community Church) and Estahakee Chapter, NSDAR (National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution) where she served on the board for five years.
Her husband, Harry Kersey, preceded her in death on November 7, 2021. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage. Surviving are two daughters, Karen Kersey Wynne and Laura Kersey Mir; sons in law Michael Wynne and Joe Mir; and granddaughter Shaina Kersey Wynne Meredith and husband Kier.
