Ronald A. Olson, M.D., age 87, of Delray Beach, Florida, formerly of Shavertown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025 at Trustbridge Hospice, Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach, Florida. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, he lived a full life leaving behind cherished memories for all who loved him.
Ron had an illustrious life. He graduated from Forty-Fort High School and Wilkes College, presently Wilkes University, with a degree in Biology. He entered graduate school masters program in microbiology at Syracuse University graduate school and graduated from Hahnmann Medical College, presently Drexel University in 1964.
He served an internship at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, Long Beach, California. He then served in the United States Air Force as a Captain in the Medical Corps, Beale Air Force Base, Marysville, California during the Vietnam War. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati General Hospital.
During his career, Ron practiced ophthalmology in Doylestown, Pennsylvania before returning to Wyoming Valley to practice in West Pittston, Pennsylvania and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He and his wife moved to Naples, Florida where he enjoyed practicing at Eye Centers of Florida before retiring in 2009 after 39 years.
He was a member of the Luzerne County Medical Society, Collier County Medical Society, the American Medical Association and a Diplomat of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He was a former member of the Westmoreland Club and Newberry Estates Country Club.
Ron was an orchid enthusiast, a passionate gardener, an avid photographer, loved home decorating, entertaining with panache and the fine arts. He enjoyed fine wines, dining, dancing and traveling extensively, especially Italy with his beloved wife.
Ron embodied the greatest generation and was a true care giver to his patients and family. He especially loved spending time with his cherished grandchildren. Throughout his life, Ron was a supportive presence in the lives of his family and a loyal friend. Ron’s creativity, flair, sense of style, compassion and unwavering dedication touched countless lives and left a lasting impact. His memory will inspire and uplift us.
Ron is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty years, Leona Anne Baiera. He was a proud father to Christian J. Olson, Esq, his wife Caroline R. Olson, Esq, and cherished grandchildren Ava and Nicolas, all of Delray Beach, Florida. He was predeceased in death by his father Conn J. Olson, mother Anna R. Olson of Forty-Fort, Pennsylvania and his brother James M. Olson of Las Vegas Nevada.
A service for Ron will be at Glick Family Funeral Home, Boca Raton, Florida at 12:00PM on May 22, 2025. Interment will be with military honors at 2:00pm at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
