Robert “Bobby” Collins Ott passed away peacefully on the morning of September 19, 2025, entering the loving arms of Jesus.
Bobby was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on June 22, 1940 to Norman Harlow Ott and Kathryn Vits Ott. He was the fourth child, arriving just eight minutes after his identical twin brother, Billy, a bond that would shape his life and bring countless adventures.
In 1964, Bobby graduated from the University of Miami. It was there that he and Billy began to nurture their lifelong passions for both the restaurant and aviation industries. With determination and vision, the brothers went on to successfully operate several restaurants and later founded Burnside-Ott Aviation Training Center, leaving their mark on two industries they deeply loved.
Bobby’s life was defined not only by his professional accomplishments but also by his zest for living life fully. He was a gifted musician who found joy in sharing music with others. He was an avid aviator, a skier who delighted in the slopes of Aspen, and a boater who cherished time on the waters of the Florida Keys. Though he spent much of his life in Boca Raton, Florida, Bobby always remained close to his Wisconsin roots. His beautiful home on Pewaukee Lake became a gathering place each summer where family and friends created lasting memories.
Beyond his passions and pursuits, Bobby will be remembered for his quiet and generous heart. He gave selflessly to families in need, veterans’ organizations, children’s hospitals, churches, and global humanitarian efforts—always preferring to help quietly and without recognition. His kindness touched countless lives in ways that will never be forgotten.
Bobby is survived by his loving family: his sisters, Barbara Wegmann and Shelley Kotovic; Love of his life, Brenda Dorman; Dear and loyal friend, Xuan Le: Sister-in-law, Mary Ott; and many devoted nieces and nephews. He will be remembered with deep affection by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Melissa Sarmiento, Bobby’s loyal friend and extraordinary caregiver for more than 20 years. Her dedication, love, and commitment brought Bobby great comfort. Additional gratitude is extended to his Care First USA team - Tania Saintil, Kendelle Jean-Pierre, Keisha Cineus, and Ciara St. Fleur for their kindness and compassionate care during his final days.
A Mass in Bobby’s honor will be celebrated at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish in North Lake, Wisconsin. Donations can be made to Trustbridge Hospice of Palm Beach County or Tunnel to Towers Foundation. He will be laid to rest at Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee, alongside his family. Thanks to Glick Family Funeral Home www.glickfamilyfuneralhome.com and Robert C. Ott obituary.
Bobby’s legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the generosity he showed, and the joy he brought to so many.
