Robert Milhous Obituary

Robert Edward Milhous, “Bob”, passed away peacefully after a long valiant battle with cancer, surrounded by family in Boca Raton, Florida, on November 27, 2022. He was 85.

Bob was born on January 14, 1937, to the late David and Ruth (Ballard) Milhous in Indianapolis and grew up in Plainfield, Indiana. AS a teen, he loved tinkering with old cars, and in high school, he played the clarinet, was president of the band, played football and achieved the distinguished ranking of Eagle Scout.

He graduated from Purdue University with degrees in mechanical engineering and industrial economics. He moved to California and convinced his younger brother, Paul, to join him there, where they started what would grow to become the nation’s largest printer of retail advertising circulars. The two brothers went on to build other businesses as well, in manufacturing and in commercial and residential real estate development.

Bob was a man of integrity, warmth, and a zest for life. He had a passion for boating and loved being aboard one of the many yachts he owned through the years, cruising beautiful areas of the world, hosting friends and family. Another passion was the collecting and restoration of antique cars and participating in antique car rallies held throughout the world. He also shared a love of music with his brother Paul, and together they built a museum featuring rare international antique musical instruments as well as their large automobile collection. It was their joy to host many charitable events at The Milhous Museum.

Bob was also a collector of friends, and was loved by all. Even when hospitalized multiple times, the nurses fondly called him their “superstar” patient. The family would like to thank those who supported them during this time of such kindness and strength. This bigger-than-life man has left us with an enormous hole in our hearts.

Bob is preceded in death by his older brother, John, who died in August 2010, and grandson, Caleb, who died in December 2021. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail; brother, Paul Milhous(Mary Ann); sister, Nancy Wilson(John); daughter, Peggy Milhous; sons, Derrick Milhous(Samantha), Bret Winfrey(Jennifer), and Joel Winfrey(Roxana). In addition, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who all loved their “Papa”.

The funeral service will be held at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church, 100 NE Mizner Blvd., Boca Raton, FL  33432 on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 a 3:00pm.  To watch the live stream of the service please click the following link http://www.facebook.com/SaintGregorys
