September 11, 1934 - May 26, 2021
Robert Burg Gray passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and care of his family, at the age of 86. He is survived by his five children and their partners, Robert C. and Cristina Gray, James and Terri Gray, Amy and Richard Ferranti, Stephen Gray and Wendell Waltman, and David and Christina Gray. He was Papa to eleven grandchildren.
Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he spent time overseas in Germany and developed a love for travel that would last his lifetime. He earned a doctorate degree from the University of Kentucky and taught business administration until retirement, but never stopped being a patient teacher, scholar, and contemplative thinker. He will be remembered by those close to him for his calm demeanor and clever wit.
He provided unwavering love and support to his wife and best friend Mary Ballou for 61 years. They built a home together in Boca Raton, Florida where Robert cultivated a tropical paradise in his yard, lush with palm trees and orchids, but never forgot his roots in Waynesboro, Mississippi. He joins his loving partner Mary, his father and mother, Robert Whitley and Verda Dickerson Gray and his brother, Horace Patterson Gray.
The family will celebrate his life with a memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, they ask that you consider a donation to the TrustBridge Foundation in the name of our beloved.
