Richard (Rick) Albert Butrym, 74, passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2025, surrounded by those he loved.
Rick was born to Albert and Viola Butrym on December 28, 1950 in Duluth, Minnesota. Here, he proudly served in the 148th Fighter Wing of the Air National Guard. Rick married Georgene Holmberg on September 16, 1972. In 1981, he and his family moved to Boca Raton, Florida, where he became a longtime member of Advent Ministries. Rick retired from the Information Technology industry in 2022.
Rick was a kind soul who was polite to everyone. He particularly enjoyed telling jokes to put a smile on someone’s face. Growing up, he loved working with his hands, building model cars and repairing vacuum cleaners at his dad’s shop. He was very interested in cars of all makes and models and was passionate about music: classic country, the Beatles, and his favorites, Elvis and Buddy Holly. He always said “there’s a song for everything.” Lately, his hobbies included stamp collecting, watching movies, and reading with his cat on his lap.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Janis Gentry and Barbara Taklo. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Genie, daughter Angela Carlson (Michael), sons Ryan, Brent (Linden) and Brandon (Pam, significant other), grandchildren Ellie Carlson and Graham Butrym, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, July 17 at Glick Family Funeral Home. Visitation is from 6-7pm, followed by a service at 7pm. To watch the live stream of the service please click the following link http://meet.google.com/yre-voxv-oas
