Reverend Guy S. Fiano, O.Carm., a member of the Order of Carmelites of the North American Province of St. Elias, died peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2022 in the Lourdes Noreen McKeen Residence in West Palm Beach, Florida after some months of struggle with his health. He was 68 years old.
Father Guy was born in Farmingdale, New York on January 30, 1954 to Salvatore and Marjorie Howard Fiano. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Nicholas, and his sister, Jeanne Susan Dorfmeister. He is survived by his brother Ronald and wife Delores, his nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Father Guy professed First Vows of Obedience, Poverty and Chastity on June 2, 1981 in Maspeth, New York. He professed Solemn Vows on August 7, 1982 in Tarrytown, New York and was ordained to the priesthood on October 8, 1983 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Brooklyn, New York.
He graduated with an Associate Degree in Social Science from Orange County Community College in 1974 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work & Philosophy from the Catholic University, Washington, DC in 1976. From 1976 to 1982 Father Guy attended Washington Theological Union in Washington, DC, earning his Masters in Theological Studies. Father Guy also attended St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida from 1985-1986 and again from 1992-1995 (M.S. Candidate) and Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida in 1987.
Father Guy worked as a Guidance Counselor at Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, New York 1980-1981, and at Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton, Florida from 1982-1988. He served as Associate Pastor at Our Lady of the Scapular in New York City 1988-1989 and as Associate Pastor St. Joan of Arc in Boca Raton 1989-1990. From 1990-2007 he worked at Pope John Paul II High School as Director of Guidance, Assistant to the President and as President. From 2007 to 2008 Father Guy worked as a Guidance Counselor at Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, Illinois. He returned to St. Jude Parish in Boca Raton in 2008 and served as Parochial Vicar at St. Joan of Arc Church until 2010 and as Parochial Vicar at St. Jude Church from 2010 until May 2017. Father Guy also served on the Presbyteral Council of the Palm Beach Diocese. He became a resident of Lourdes Noreen McKeen Residence in West Palm Beach, Florida in July 2017 where he remained until his death.
A dedicated and hard-working Carmelite, much beloved by many, Father Guy Fiano, O.Carm. was a professed member of the Carmelite Order for 41 years and a priest for almost 39 years. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.
