We celebrate the life of Patricia Jean Shives who died peacefully at home on July 10, 2026. Pat was 93 at the time of her death, and even in the weeks leading up to it, was striving to live as full a life as possible. Pat enjoyed time with friends, visits from family, and was devoted to her loyal feline companion, Inky. She was an avid bridge player, gardener, and participant in social gatherings. Pat loved people!
Pat was born on April 9, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA, the first child of H. Neff Jenkins and Jean Winemiller Jenkins. Pat grew up in Cincinnati, OH, graduating from Withrow High School, and attending Denison University and the University of Cincinnati. She married her husband, John (Jack) L. Shives in 1954, and they celebrated 65 years of life together. Pat and Jack lived in El Paso, Texas when Jack served in the Army, then settled in Terra Haute, Indiana for Jack’s first assignment with IBM. Jack’s work later took them to Rochester, Minnesota, and eventually Boca Raton, Florida where Pat lived for almost 50 years. Pat and Jack enjoyed life along the intercoastal in Camino Gardens, and Pat moved to St. Andrew’s Estates after Jack’s death in 2020. Pat immersed in gardening and especially raising orchids. She was a member and volunteer at the American Orchid Society when located in Delray Beach, a longtime member of the Silver Palm Garden Club, and a member of the Boca Raton Garden Club. Pat served on the Board of the Camino Gardens Homeowners Association and volunteered in many roles. She also volunteered at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach. Pat was an ardent bridge player and continued playing up until recent months.
Pat is predeceased by her parents, her husband Jack, her brother, Neff Jenkins, and her sister-in-law, Jane Jenkins. She is survived by her sister, Joyce Jenkins Keeshin, her nephews, Brooks Ryan Keeshin (Susana) and H. Neff Jenkins (Stephanie), her niece, Tricia Quidley, seven great nieces and nephews, Elia Keeshin, Luke, Kelly, and Avery Jenkins, Abigail, Cole and Catherine Quidley, by her dear friend Debbie Leone, her loving care givers who made her life so much happier, Amelia Nicoli and Kayla Passos, and her many friends, longtime and new.
We also want to thank the dedicated care givers from St. Andrew’s Home Health Care and Trustbridge Hospice who enabled Pat to return to and remain in her home with her beloved Inky the last weeks of her life.
In honoring Pat’s wishes, a small graveside service will be held on August 4 at 10:30 at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida. A reception celebrating Pat’s life will be held at 12:00 at St. Andrew’s in the Oceana Room in the North Building. Memorial gifts may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Rd. Kanab, UT 84741 or a charity of your choice.
