Matthew Zavell passed away surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a lifetime of memories marked by adventure, warmth, and deep connection with those he loved. Matthew fought a courageous nine-month battle with glioblastoma.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Maureen Mulvihill, and his loving father, Michael Zavell. Matthew shared a special bond with his sister, Missy Trapp (Ian), and found great joy in being an uncle to his cherished niece and nephews, Tori, Russell, and Grant.
Matthew had a true passion for cycling, the outdoors, and exploring the world around him. Over the course of his life, he traveled through more than 30 states, taking the time to experience each place in depth—discovering hidden trails, scenic waterways, and the simple beauty of nature. His curiosity and sense of adventure also led him across the globe during his service in the United States Navy, where he formed lifelong friendships and received many medals and special accolades.
He had a remarkable appreciation for good food and fresh ingredients, with a special talent for spotting a great restaurant from a mile away. Matthew loved to cook and took pride in creating meaningful, delicious meals .
Known for his warm spirit and contagious laugh, Matthew was truly a friend to all. He had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and understood.
Matthew will be greeted in heaven by his beloved grandmothers and grandfathers, whom he loved more than anything. His kindness, loyalty, adventurous heart, and deep love for family will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
A brief Military service will be held at the South Florida National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 1st promptly at 1:00PM. 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, Fl 33449- funeral staging will be in lane 3 prior to 1pm. A gathering will follow the service at the Boca Marina and Yacht Club Clubhouse, located at 5150 North Federal Highway.
Guests are welcome to wear whatever they feel comfortable in; black attire is not necessary.
