MATTHEW THEOFELOS JENETOPULOS

1927 – 2020

Matthew Theofelos Jenetopulos, 92, passed away at his home in Boca Raton, Florida on July 12, 2020.   Preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Vivian Savakis Jenetopulos, Matthew was born in New Haven, CT on November 24, 1927, son of Theofelos and Evangelia (Constantinides) Jenetopulos.  Matt grew up in New Haven and was a long-time resident of West Haven, CT where as a devoted father and family man, he and Vivian raised their family.

He attended Hillhouse High School and transferred to the University of Chicago at 16 where he completed his studies in their dual enrollment program.  Like so many of The Greatest Generation, he put his studies on hold and enlisted in the Army in 1946.

In 1965 Matthew founded Systems Cable TV in New Haven.  He sold the business to Storer Communications in 1980 and retired to Florida with Vivian and their golf clubs.  He was an active member of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, New Haven, CT and St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church, Boca Raton, FL serving both communities as parish president.  He lived a life of service to his country, his church and his family and was particularly proud of his roots in the Asia Minor Village of Permata.

Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Linda (William) Esposito, Theophilus (Eileen) Jenetopulos and George (Marge) Jenetopulos;  eight grandchildren:  Anthony Esposito, Matthew (Tracey) Esposito, Elliott Cennetoglu (Ty), Matthew (Malorie) Jenetopulos,  Theo Jenetopulos, Allison (Fred) Frederiksen, Rebecca and Daniel Jenetopulos; and five great grandchildren: Jack Esposito, Sophia Esposito, Ty McCormack, Elinor and Henry Jenetopulos.  He looked forward to welcoming his sixth great grandchild in December.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, July 16 at St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church in Boca Raton.  A Committal service with Military Honors will be held at 1:30 PM at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth.
