Marion Geiges

March 5, 1934 ~ August 26, 2023 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Obituary

Marion (DeMarco) Geiges, 89 years young, of Hollywood, FL, peacefully entered into eternal life on 8/26/2023 surrounded by loving family.

Marion was born in Glendora, NJ, on March 5, 1934, the youngest of five children of Italian immigrants, Emilio and Susie DeMarco. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers James and Joseph, and sisters Rose and Elizabeth. In 1956, Marion married John R. Geiges, and together they raised their family in Haddon Heights, NJ.

Marion was a go-getter, a jet-setter and a trendsetter. With determination and focus, she successfully built a decorated nursing career spanning over five decades, specializing as a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist). Her career launched at Cooper Hospital in Camden NJ, continued at several hospitals in South Florida starting in 1979, and finally concluded at Hollywood Memorial Day Surgery Center. Multiple attempts at retirement bored her, as she craved the fast-paced and energetic environment of the operating room. And, of course, the social aspect was an added bonus; she couldn't miss out on the latest gossip! She had an adventurous spirit and unmatched zest for life. Travelling and exploring new places and activities with her many close friends and family allowed her to fill her shelves with photos and her grandchildren's eyes with admiration as she recapped her journeys to them upon every return. It also allowed her to establish an impressive collection of elephant figurines. She loved to stay current with the latest fashion and beauty trends, often partaking in glamorous fashion shows and indulging in the newest offerings of The Home Shopping Network. She was always envied at the local hair and nail salons and her impeccable appearance is still an inspiration to her granddaughters. When she wasn't working, trekking across the country, or gracing the runway, she enjoyed spending her "down time" at home tending to her garden and fruit trees, partaking in social outings with her friends, and staying current on politics. Her drive for success, active lifestyle, and timeless beauty kept Marion full of youth throughout her entire life; she refused to get "old"!

But above all, Marion's greatest passion and joy in life was spending time with her family. Remaining to cherish Marion's memory are her two children, Paula (James Fischer) and John (Betsy), along with her 9 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. To her family, she was more lovingly known as Mom, Grandmom, and GG. She consistently outpoured love and support to her entire family. She took every opportunity to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with trips to the toy store and Happy Meals. She was the biggest cheerleader at every sporting event and school pageant. She was the best babysitter on sick days and the best host for weekend sleepovers. She was an avid art collector, but her most prized pieces were the ones created by her grandchildren. She was the one person everyone wanted to sit next to at the dinner table. She taught by example, exhibiting love, success, and strength daily. Her eyes beamed with pride at any mention of her family and she seized every chance to do so, as that was always her greatest achievement in life. Simply put, she was a perfect example of a loving matriarch.

It was Marion's final wish to be reunited at sea with her former late husband, John R. Geiges. Her memory and legacy will live on for generations with those she leaves behind.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11-1 PM on Saturday, September 16 at Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton.
