Marcia Anne (Wherry) Ahearn, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024 in her home in Boca Raton, Florida. Married for 52 years to the love of her life John, and mother to three children, JJ (Jennifer), Daniel (Susan) and Alison (Brent). She adored her seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jack, Ashley, Connor, Beau, Emery and Lacey. Affectionately known as “Bear” to all who loved her, she leaves a void her family cannot fill.
Marcia was born February 27, 1949 in Sacramento, California to Jack and Mary Alice Wherry. At 13 her family moved to Wilton, Connecticut. After high school she attended Centenary College in New Jersey before becoming a flight attendant for TWA. Stationed in New York, she met John while living in the same apartment building in Queens, NY. After a quick courtship they were married October 23, 1971. John and Marcia’s life together moved them all over the country, including Omaha, Nebraska, Birmingham, Alabama, Pleasanton, California and Boca Raton, Florida. They made many lifelong friends along the way.
A devoted wife and mother, Marcia made everyone always feel welcome and loved. Despite the many health challenges she faced in her 75 years, she always had a smile on her face and brought joy to everyone who knew her. Other than her family, some of Marcia’s great loves were trips to Disney World, Monday nights with her bunco group, years in the ladies bowling league, shopping (online or in person, she wasn’t picky), a glass of white wine and her beloved dogs Maddy and Sandy. She enjoyed her time in many philanthropies, especially her Boca Chapter of PEO.
She was truly gifted in her ability to make everyone always feel so loved. Please join us as we celebrate her beautiful memory at a Funeral Mass at 10 am Saturday, June 15, 2024, at St. Jude Catholic Church (21689 Toledo Road, Boca Raton). A Celebration of Life will follow at noon at Delray Beach Club (dress code - please no blue denim; 2001 S Ocean Blvd, Delray Beach.) Bear loved the color purple, so please wear as little or as much purple as you’d like in her memory.
