Maher Sarkis Anis Sedra

It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of Maher Sarkis Anis Sedra. He died on September 16, 2020. He was 87 years old, he lived in Boca Raton FL. He bravely fought bladder cancer for 7 months. 

Maher was born on June 3, 1933 in Assuit Egypt. He was a a caring and beloved friend, brother, father & grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Sohair Sedra, they have been married for 53 years and his 3 sons Hazem Sedra, Hosam Sedra & Hecham Sedra. He is survived by his grand children Erin Sedra, Rhett Sedra, Simone Sedra & Jasper Sedra. 

Maher Sedra was a very accomplished and well respected person throughout his life. At an early age he loved to read & was extremely curious. He had a pension for education & learning which lasted his whole life. He was the eldest of 6, with his youngest sibling being 18 years his junior. He had 4 sisters. Salwa, Joany(deceased), Tahany, Senaa and Magdy his brother. He was the patriarch of the family for over 60 years and took his role & duty to his family seriously & with respect till his passing. He was raised in a farming town in Upper Egypt(South) and wanted to be an engineer but was pushed towards medicine & became a well respected doctor. He was a very humble yet proud, hardworking, inteligent, respectful, head strong, sincere, kind, humorous person. He was a mans man. 

He left Egypt & his own private doctors clinic to work as Hospital Chief/Doctor in Nigeria in 1972. He left Nigeria in 1978 & traveled to London, England. At this time he was deciding to pursue medicine in the US or Australia. He chose the former. He then migrated with his family in 1979 to the United States. Passing his medical entrance exams he settled in Brooklyn NY & worked as the both hospital Administrator & Anesthesiologist at South Beach Psychiatric Center Staten Island, NY. He retired in 2000 from Medicine & moved to Boca Raton, FL in 2018.
