Leo Kiernan Obituary

Leo Carlie Edward Kiernan Age 89

After a lifetime of service to others, Leo passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Boca Raton, on April 10, 2021.

Leo, was born in Newark, New Jersey on July 15, 1931.  He was the oldest of two sons, to Leo and Anne Kiernan. He grew up enjoying the beach at Seaside Park on the Jersey Shore. Leo Graduated from Toms River High School. He served his country by joining the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War.

Those who knew him, knew how much he loved being a gunner on a B-29. He enjoyed telling his stories as he recounted his days in the service of our country. He always had a funny story to tell and a lesson to teach.

Leo married his partner of 59 years, Marianne, on January 22, 1961. Together they had three sons, Michael, Leo and Todd, before moving to Boca Raton in 1972. He couldn’t wait to get to the warm weather of South Florida. Leo began working for the City of Boca Raton and retired from there after 27 years of service to it’s citizens.

Leo was an outdoorsmen. He enjoyed camping, swimming and body surfing with his family. He started out camping in a large two room tent, then upgraded to a travel trailer, and then to a motorhome. He camped as often as he could with family and friends. Leo was an avid card player. Whether playing canasta at home with family or Blackjack at the casino.

Leo was active at the local American Legion, serving as the historian and setting up for the meetings. He was always willing to help when needed.

Leo was a dog lover. He enjoyed walking his second best girl, Gabby, on his mile and a half walk every morning prior to his passing.

Leo is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marianne, two of his sons, Michael Patrick, and Leo Thor George. He is survived by his youngest son, Todd Andrew, Daughter-in-Law, Heidi, and grandchildren, Brandon Todd and his wife Olya, Alexander Erik, Amber Laporta, Shane Preston, and Katy and his brother George Pusey.

Pops will be missed by so many, but you are never really gone as long as you are remembered.
