Krista Jeanne Maki, 78, passed on January 02, 2023. She was born to Edwin Maki and Donna Maki on May 19, 1944 in Detriot, Michigan.
Krista graduated from Michigan State University with degrees in Physics and German. She was recruited by IBM where she spent a rewarding career as a systems engineer and executive leader. However, her creativity and passion for humanity were more fully expressed in her volunteer and social engagements. Krista was active with the Boca Raton Photography Club and committed more than 25 years of service to the Boca Friends of the Library. She served on the "Friends" board for several decades and led the speaker series alongside some of her closest friends in the community. Krista was beautifully authentic and unabashedly herself. She brought a unique flair for humanity and civic engagement to every environment she was in from her volunteer service, to world travel, to canvasing homes for political campaigns. She was always for the underdog and loved to meet needs when she knew about them. She squeezed every ounce out of life and those close to her are sad to know that she is gone, but also thankful that she was a part of each of our lives.
Krista was preceded in death by her mother and father, Donna and Edwin Maki, and her brother Jon Maki. She is survived by her sister, Susan Schmidt, brother-in-law, Phillip Schmidt, and nieces and nephew, Kristen DeMarco, Karin Cain, and Eric Maki. We are left believing that the world "needs more Kristas" and we hope to carry her spirit forward in our own lives.
A memorial service will be held in the afternoon of April 2 at the Community Room of the Downtown Boca Raton Library. Please contact secretary@bocalibraryfriends.org to RSVP for the service.
