Juan José Rodríguez González Obituary

Juan José Rodríguez González, lovingly known as “Chemy,” was born in Lares, Puerto Rico.  He was the son of José Rodríguez and Carmen González and grew up with 13 siblings, 9 of whom  are still living.    

At the age of 4, he moved to New York City, where he completed most of his education and learned the value of hard work and perseverance.  At 14, he returned to Puerto Rico.

At 18, he began his career as an elementary school teacher in Lares.  He later worked in New York as an assistant manager and as a supervisor in the emergency department at Bellevue  Hospital.

After returning to Puerto Rico, he served as teacher, District English Supervisor, and Director of the English Program.  He earned his Ph.D. from Penn State University and later served as Sub-Secretary of Education in Puerto Rico.

He was a professor at the University of Puerto Rico until his retirement in 2011, Vice President of Editorial Panamericana, and later a professor at Interamerican University.

In 2025, he published his novel in English “Where Love Doesn’t Fall Silent.” In March 2026, he was preparing to publish his second novel, “Where the Waves Meet Fire.” 

He was a great motivator in education and a natural leader.  His presence inspired respect, affection, and admiration.  He was an adventurer with a creative mind and was deeply proud of his  achievements and those of his family.

In his final three years, he lived in Boca Raton, Florida, with his wife Diana, near his son Christian and his daughter Maribel. He passed away on February 22, 2026, in Boca Raton, Florida.

He was a great human being whom God has welcomed into heaven.

 

Juan José Rodríguez González, cariñosamente conocido como “Chemy”, nació en Lares, Puerto Rico.  Fue hijo de José Rodríguez y Carmen González, y creció en una familia numerosa junto a 13 hermanos y hermanas, de los cuales actualmente viven 9.

A los 4 años se trasladó a la ciudad de Nueva York, donde realizó la mayor parte de sus estudios y aprendió el valor del trabajo y la perseverancia.  A los 14 años regresó a Puerto Rico.

A los 18 años comenzó su carrera como maestro de escuela elemental en Lares.  Más adelante trabajó en Nueva York como asistente de gerente y luego como supervisor en el área de  emergencias del Hospital Bellevue.

Regresó a Puerto Rico donde fue maestro, Supervisor Distrital de Inglés y Director del Programa de Inglés del Departamento de Educación.  Obtuvo su Ph.D. en Penn State University y  posteriormente se desempeñó como Subsecretario de Educación de Puerto Rico.

Fue catedrático en la Universidad de Puerto Rico hasta su retiro en 2011, Vicepresidente de Editorial Panamericana y profesor en la Universidad Interamericana.

En 2025 publicó su novela en inglés “Where Love Doesn’t Fall Silent”.  En marzo de 2026 se encontraba próximo a publicar su segunda novela “Where the Waves Meet Fire”.

Fue un gran motivador de la educación, líder natural y maestro de ceremonias en todas las actividades familiares.  Su presencia inspiraba respeto, cariño y admiración. Fue un aventurero con  mente creativa, orgulloso de sus logros y de los de su familia.

En sus últimos tres años residió en Boca Raton, Florida, junto a su esposa Diana, cerca de su hijo Christian y su hija Maribel. Falleció el 22 de febrero de 2026 en Boca Raton, Florida.

Fue un gran ser humano que Dios ha recibido en el cielo.
