Joyce Wutt Dawson (1931-2023)
Joyce Wutt Dawson, 91, of Boca Raton passed away peacefully on May 2nd.
Joyce was born December 18, 1931 in Sheboygan, WI, to Carlos and Eva (Dassow) Schlichting. Her commitment and contributions to St Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Boca Raton, to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale, and in reading for Insight for the Blind were well recognized. She was active in the choir, lay reading, ministering communion, and bible studies at both churches.
Joyce, a social worker, fell in love with Robert Wutt, Assistant D.A. for Milwaukee and was married in 1960. They moved shortly thereafter to Fort Lauderdale with their son, Mark, and daughter, Mary. After Robert’s passing in 1996, Joyce was blessed to meet John (Jack) Dawson at Church. They fell in love and were happily married for over 16 years, until Jack’s passing in 2016.
Joyce graduated from Carroll College in 1953, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Sociology and Psychology.
Joyce is survived by her sister, Joan Koltes of Boca Raton, FL; her son, Mark Wutt, of Peoria, IL; her step daughter, Jane Dawson Shang and Paul of Greenwich, CT; her step son, Paul Dawson and Amie of Needham, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alexa, Nicholas, Austin and Mackenzie Wutt; J.T. (Shandi) Blum and Joel Piehl (and Alexandra); Margot and Matthew Shang; Trevor and Abigail Dawson; and 6 great grandchildren.
Joyce was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Piehl.
A funeral service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 10th at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church at 4pm at St. 100 NE Mizner Blvd, Boca Raton, FL 33432.
Relatives and friends may greet the family before the service from 1:30-3:30pm at Glick Family Funeral Home at 3600 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33431.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to St. Gregory’s.
