John Strobis M.D. Obituary

John A. Strobis, M.D., 70, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on June 22 at Boca Raton Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Lovingly known to many as “Doc” or “Jack,” he dedicated his life to caring for others.

Jack was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 2, 1952. He was raised in Nahant, Massachusetts and attended Lynn Classical High School, where he was recently elected to the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Jack earned a scholarship to Stonehill College and was the quarterback on the football team. He then graduated from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979.

After completing his medical training and residency, Jack settled in Boca Raton in 1983 and established his private internal medicine practice. He joined the staff of Boca Raton Regional Hospital, where he served as a member of the medical staff for 38 years. Dr. Strobis has touched the lives of so many in the community and was known for going the extra mile for his patients, all while providing the highest level of compassionate care. Doc was a fixture in the halls of the hospital each and every morning. He will be sorely missed by his physician and office colleagues, the nurses, staff and his many patients.

When not practicing medicine, Jack was happiest when he was with his family and beloved dogs, Spike, Woody, and Snoopy, who never left his side. He was an avid swimmer and the pool was his special place to find serenity. Jack also loved the game of golf. He had the great honor of playing golf with four generations of Yastrzemskis and these were among his most cherished memories.

Jack believed in giving back to others as well. He founded the Strobis Glaucoma Foundation to raise funds and create awareness about rare eye diseases. The Foundation also supported efforts to send blind and disabled children and their siblings to camp. Some of the children and teens would visit Dr. Strobis in his office to share their experiences with him. Helping others in this way brought him great joy.

Jack is survived by his wife, Sys and six children: Justin, Kara (David Donvito), Ryan, Peter, Jacqueline, and Steffen; grandchildren Michael and Ava Donvito; mother Lillian (Peter Scapicchio); sister Marie (Ralph Englert) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jack to the Strobis Glaucoma Foundation. Donations can be mailed to 880 N.W. 13th Street, Suite 1A, Boca Raton, FL 33486.

A visitation will be held at Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton on Monday, June 27, 2022 from 2-6PM.
