Jack was born on November 16th, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA, to John Francis McDonough and Marie Lucile McDonough nee Martorella. Jack served in the US Navy from 1957 to 1961 as a Flight Deck Director/Aircraft Handler on the USS Valley Forge CVS-45. On February 17th, 1962, he married MaryJo DeNapoli. They raised two daughters, Maureen and Kelly, and a son, John.
Jack loved to fish, on his boat, off the pier, in his backyard, Everglades City, really anywhere there are fish. For years, he fished Reynolds Channel on the south shore of Long Island any chance he could for the elusive striped bass.
Jack was a doer of things, never ready to stop, after he retired he remodeled the bathrooms and the kitchen in his FL home, made highly detailed models of his favorite cars, learned to play Canasta, was technically proficient as is evidenced by a house full of gadgets, devices, tablets, and computers. Jack was swimming laps on a daily basis and logging hundreds of miles on his bike which he rode until this past summer.
Last summer Jack was diagnosed with an aggressive inoperable cancer that was responsible for a fairly quick deterioration. In true Jack style he was active to the very end, playing cards, visiting with his friends and grandchildren. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit and his complete devotion to his wife MaryJo.
