John Maher Obituary

John “Jack” Maher passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024.

Jack was born on March 21,1935 in Elizabeth, NJ. He grew up in both Elizabeth and Philadelphia, PA. He earned an Accounting degree from Villanova University. Jack began his career as a CPA for an accounting firm, Peat Marwick, and he ended his career as the Vice President of Finance for Swann Oil. In addition to his career in accounting, Jack also served our country as a member of the US Army Reserves.

The true highlight of Jack’s life was spending 61 wonderful years with the love of his life, Joan. They met while Jack was an auditor at the bank where Joan worked as a teller. They were married on February 17,1962,  and went on to have three beautiful daughters, Jill, Jeanne, and Joy. Jack and Joan were avid sports enthusiasts and particularly loved the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Mets, and the Villanova basketball team.

Jack was a man of committed faith and attended St. Francis Catholic Church in Metuchen, NJ and Ascension Catholic Church in Boca Raton, Florida.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Maher and his lovely wife Joan. He is survived by a brother, Dave, a member of the Congregation of Christian Brothers and his daughters Jill (John) Fresco, Jeanne (Steve) Rosholt, Joy (Beth) Maher, grandchildren Korrie and Kyle Martinez and Michael and Sydney Rosholt, as well as his sister-in-law, Judy Sendelsky, nieces Melissa and Tiffany Muni and nephews Len and Sean “Guy” Sendelsky.

A small service for the family will be held at the Boca Raton Cemetery on March 13, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Ascension church in Jack’s honor.
