John Francis Foley died February 13, 2024 in hospice care from pulmonary fibrosis. John was born in Boston in 1944 to James and Flora (Brennan) Foley. At age ten, he moved to Rochester, New York. After spending three years in Germany while serving in the US Army, John returned to Rochester.
After finding employment with General Motors, John joined the United Auto Workers. John was a lifelong proud union member and activist. He wholeheartedly believed in the power of organized labor to bring forth a new world. John spent much of his retirement standing with the fast food workers who were fighting for fifteen’ or Walmart workers who were ‘united for respect.’ He continued to demonstrate for the causes he believed in. He volunteered for candidates and registered voters in every election cycle. He loved his neighbor, whether the neighbor was across the hall or across the ocean. His untiring work to make the world a better place inspired all who knew him.
John is survived by his wife, Elisabeth, and his stepdaughters, Molly and Katy; his brother, Brian, and his sister-in-law, Lauren; his nieces, Jessica, Amanda, and Sunny, as well as many other extended family members.
John will be remembered always for his kindness, his loyalty, his helpfulness, and his generosity, his basic goodness and decency. He will be deeply mourned and missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27 at 11am at Glick Family Funeral Home 3600 N Federal Highway in Boca Raton
