John Dennis Ficarelli

John Ficarelli, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 20, 2024, in Boca Raton, Florida, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in the Bronx on November 11, 1941, in New York and raised in Great Neck.

John was a partner in a family-owned construction company in College Point, NY, and a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 14-14b. His commitment to his work reflected his strong values and dedication to his family.

He enjoyed a vibrant life filled with adventure and love with his wife Sheila. Together they spent four years sailing the Caribbean, cherishing the freedom of the open sea. Even at the age of 70, John remained active and passionate about life, practicing yoga and completing half marathons, which showcased his dedication to fitness and perseverance. He had a deep appreciation for fine food and nature, enjoyed growing orchids, and adopting rescue dogs, all of which reflected his nurturing spirit.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Sheila, of 47 years; his brother, Robert; his two daughters, Toni and Shariee; four cherished grandchildren, Dylan and his wife, Danielle, Nicole, Madeline and her husband, David, and Brandon; and many nieces and nephews, including his close nephews, Todd and Ross.

John will be remembered for his kindness, adventurous spirit, boisterous laugh, and the joy he brought to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hope for Paws Rescue or Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital. 

The family will receive friends at the Glick Family Funeral Home on Thursday, October 24 from 10am-11am. A memorial service for John will then begin at 11am. 

The family will be sitting shiva in their home on both Thursday(10/24) and Friday(10/25) from 1-6pm.
