John Booher Obituary

John “Jack” Wayne Booher, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in Boca Raton, Florida, at the age of 77 on 20 May 2025.

Jack was born in Niagara Falls, New York, on 4 March 1948 to John and Irene Booher.  He grew up in a loving and bustling military family alongside his sister Cheryl, and brothers Gary, David, and Chris.  Jack earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force in 1970.  He completed 26 years of faithful service and retired with the rank of Colonel.  His assignments took him around the world:  Electronic Warfare Officer during combat flight operations in Vietnam, F-111 Weapon Systems Officer in England, air attaché at the American embassy in Bonn, Germany, and key leadership roles in the Pentagon.  Following his distinguished military service, Jack enjoyed opportunities to lead as a Vice-President for BAE Systems in Nashua, NH, and CEO of ESEA in Los Altos, CA.

Jack was introduced to Carol Hammer by a family connection in his F-111 squadron.  He married her on 5 May 1984 in Bismarck, ND, and became dad to Carol’s daughter, Amy, and son, Noa.  They moved to Germany where Jack and Carol were soon blessed with two more daughters: Anya and Megan.  Jack and Carol were inseparable for 41 years right up to his passing with her at his side.

Jack will be long remembered for his admirable character and fun-loving energy.   He was loyal and devoted, always choosing paths to bless his family with love, happiness, and opportunity.  He was industrious, typically in the middle of one project while planning the next one.  He was resilient, demonstrating great strength and grace in his battle with cancer.  Jack was always a big-idea guy, dreaming up possibilities for home improvement, grand surprises, exotic dinner menus, and epic family adventures.  If you could keep up with him, you were in for a ride.  He enjoyed music and cooking, and he loved swapping stories, possessing countless tales of childhood misadventure and military high jinks.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brothers, David and Gary.  He is survived by his wife, Carol Booher, his children, Amy (JB) Endlich of Sharpsburg, GA, Noa (Julie) Hammer of Oceanside, CA, Anya Booher of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Megan (Ryan) LeFevre of Boca Raton, FL, his sister, Cheryl (Glen) Dawson of Belleville, IL, his brother, Stephen “Chris” (Debbie) Booher of Flower Mount, TX, his sister-in-law, Anita Booher of Boise, ID, and his grandchildren, Matthew, Ruby, Mila, Lucy, Conrad, and Ford.

Jack loved the Lord.  He loved his country.  He loved his family and friends deeply.  Our lives won’t be the same without him.  Our lives are richer and fuller because of him.
