John Aprea, 92, died November 21, 2024 at his home in Florida. He was born March 5, 1932 in Bronx, New York, the son of Filippo and Catherine (Cannata) Aprea.
John graduated from Evander Childs High School in the Bronx. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army in the Korean War Conflict from 1952-1954. John was honorably discharged from Korean Service with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, ROK Presidential Unit Emblem, and two
overseas bars.
After the war, he married his longtime sweetheart, Delia Greco and they were happily married for 69 years.
John started a career as a refrigeration installer and later moved on to becoming a Route Salesman for Taystee Bread and Entenmann’s Bakery. After retiring from Entenmann’s, John and Delia moved to Florida where he worked for the Port St. Lucie Parks Department until his official retirement at the age of 80 years old.
John liked to fish from his boat and crabbing from his dock, draw, created stain glass pieces, and took pride in growing roses. He enjoyed watching New York Yankees baseball, loved watching football, playing cards with the family. He delighted in tinkering around the house in his spare time and was a true foodie before the term became popular and loved traveling the world.
He is predeceased by his parents Filippo and Catherine and his sister Josephine. John is survived by his wife Delia, daughter Kathy (Cook) and her husband James, daughter Carol (Murtagh) and her husband Matthew, son Philip Aprea and his wife Andrea. Seven grandchildren, Nicole (Shaffer) Courtney (Eelman) Christoper Murtagh, Matthew Murtagh, Brianna (McManus), Jonathan
Aprea and Alex Aprea. Five great-grandchildren, Nico, Delia, Cameron, Cecilia, Delilah; along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is at Glick Family Funeral Home 3600 N. Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33431 on Tuesday, December 3 between 10:00 and 11:15 AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Delray Beach. Burial with Military Honors at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida.
