Joan Sarubbi Obituary

Sarubbi, Joan Edna, 92 of Boca Raton, FL passed away peacefully at her home surrounded as she always was; with family on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Joan was married to Joseph A. Sarubbi (predeceased) for 62 years  and will be cherished by her children:  James Sarubbi, Linda (Gordon) Campbell, Donna (George) Kopa, Joseph (Colleen) Sarubbi, William (Maggie) Sarubbi, Robert (Lori) Sarubbi and Joan (Paul) Carroll. Grandchildren: James, Kimberly, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Todd, Noel, Patrick, JT, Alisha, Taryn, Nicole,  Sara, Kelly, William, Brett, Christina, Joey, Anna and Emily; and great grandchildren: Salvatore, Rachel, Sean, Alex, Melanie, Brian, Maya, Camden, Christopher, Tayvin, Gemma, Jett, Lucas, Nicholas, Rory, Hunter, Sawyer, Tripp, Ines, Reese and George.

Born in Yonkers, NY on October 11th, 1929, Joan was one of two children of Joseph and Edna (Wall) Paquette (deceased); and predeceased by her brother Kenneth Paquette, brothers-in-law Angelo Gentile, sister-in-law Nelly Gentile, brother-in-law Samuel Marotta, brother-in-law Peter Sarubbi, sister-in-law Mary Marotta and is survived by her sister-in-law June Paquette, sister-in-law Sabina Sarubbi, brother-in-law Steven Loia and sister-in-law Florence Loia.

Joan lived with her husband, mother, and seven children for 30 years in the Hudson Valley Region of upstate New York before relocating to Boca Raton, Florida, where she and her husband lived out their lives.  She devoted her life to her husband and children, leaving her position as an accounting clerk when her first child was born. Her infectious laugh, zest for life, and eternal optimism left an indelible mark on anyone who knew her, most certainly her children and grandchildren. Joan was a remarkable cook and truly enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially over the holidays. Her fun-loving and inclusive way of creating delicious food dishes instilled a love for cooking in all her children.  She also loved to sing and dance and would frequently lead a Mary Poppins-like dance and sing-along throughout the house.

Joan enjoyed traveling with her husband, having the chance to visit many places around the world. She loved her walks on the beach, and especially enjoyed Hawaii where she invited family and friends for golf, good food, and fun in the sun. One of her greatest pleasures was being surrounded by her children and grandchildren during 16 years of family reunions at Myrtle Beach. She was a dedicated sports fan and, being a season ticket holder to the Miami Dolphins, loved tailgating with family and friends. In the earlier years, you would find her sitting through rain, sleet, or snow, watching her son’s football games with unmatched enthusiasm, or watching a child’s music recital with a prideful demeanor. When she wasn’t enjoying her family, beach walks, or sporting events, you would find her donating her time to her church, raising money, or supporting a good cause. Yet, of all the things we will cherish the most, there is one no greater than the special way she made you feel in her presence.

Joan will be greatly missed and remembered by all. Visitation will be held from 1-4 on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at the Glick Family Funeral Home, 3600 North Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL 33431.
