Joan (Smith) Kelleher
June 8, 1941 ~ June 12, 2021
We mourn the passing of Joan Kelleher, 80, who died June 12, 2021 due to complications after a brief hospital stay.
Joan was born in Buffalo, NY, the eldest child of Clyde and Dorothy Smith. The family, including her brother, David, lived in South Buffalo where Joan attended South Park High School. She also attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and worked as an RN at Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo for many decades.
Joan married her grammar school sweet heart, Richard Kelleher in May 1965. The couple moved to Hamburg, NY and raised four children. After many years in Hamburg, where they were parishioners at St. Francis of Assisi, the couple moved to Coconut Creek, FL, where they are parishioners at St. Ambrose Church in Deerfield Beach, FL.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 56 years: Richard (Dick) Kelleher; her four children: Amy (Jay) Vennett of Arlington, VA, Susan Kelleher (Greg Martin) of Loxahatchee, FL, Beth (Andy) Violette of Bedford, NH and Bill (Michelle) Kelleher of Westmoreland, TN; 12 grandchildren: Jestin, Elba, Claire, Myles, Christopher, Jonathan, Katherine, Sydney, Charlie, Autumn, Brendan and Nathan; one great-grand daughter: Hazel and her brother David (Nina) Smith. She will be missed by her family.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 24 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton, FL where a Wake Service will be held at 8:00 PM. To view the Wake Service virtually please click the following link http://meet.google.com/jku-qaxp-exp
A Catholic Mass will be held on Friday, June 25 at 9:30 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Deerfield Beach, FL. The family will host a luncheon at Maggiano’s Little Italy on St. Andrew’s Blvd. in Boca Raton, FL. Those interested in attending the lunch should contact the family.
An internment will take place on Friday, July 2 at 2 pm at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
In lieu of flowers, Joan’s family asks that donations be made to St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy in her name.
