Hugh M. Beckett III, or Marty to his friends, was born October 5, 1942 in Upland, PA. He was the only and much beloved child to Mary Molino and Hugh Beckett II.
Hugh lived his life full of adventure. He loved his time with his family boating in Cape Cod, fishing in the Bahamas and skiing all over the US. He loved history books and Star Trek. In 1978 Hugh and Muriel Dodge eloped, and were married until Muriel’s death in 2024.
Marty had an affinity for cars, dating back to his days as an auto body specialist. But his career really took off when, as a salesman of dictation machines, he found himself in the lobby of an investment bank and was impressed. Rather than sell his equipment, he asked, “What do I need to do to get a job here?” That’s how he got his job at First National Bank as an Investment Banker and began pursuing his MBA at Babson College. The value of his success in business, for Hugh, was the way it afforded him to take care of his family.
After a near decade long battle with lung cancer, Hugh died in Hospice care on April 25, 2025 at the age of 82. He will be remembered as a shrewd businessman and a devoted husband, father and grandpa. Hugh is survived by his three children, Hugh, Scott, and Kate; and his three granddaughters Lucy, Eliza, and Yemaya.
Hugh’s children will host a memorial for him at Hugh and Muriel’s Lighthouse Point home on June 1st at 11:30am.
