Herbert Rosenbaum, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024, in Boca Raton, FL. Born in 1934,
Herb lived a life that could only exist in the movies. He grew up near the famous Coney Island, joining the Navy when he was 19 and perfecting egg creams at a local luncheonette upon returning. Most of his adult life was spent in historic Brooklyn Heights, working in various retail positions from mens clothing to high-end housewares to gift shops - all with the common theme of beauty and style. His beloved cocker spaniel Buster was - as the saying goes - his best friend.
He loved his yearly visits to Florida to visit his younger sister Linda, where he would spend his days sunning at the beach and his nights singing Frank Sinatra songs with the family. “Uncle Herb” loved to spoil his nieces and nephew and was always responsible for so much fun and laughter.
His Brooklyn days were filled with museums, theatre, and art, and he had a large friend group who shared his passions. Later in life, he enjoyed being a neighborhood dog walker, strolling on the Promenade overlooking the Manhattan skyline, chatting it up with locals and tourists alike.
Everyone knew him for his colorful, funky style and his convivial demeanor. He was lucky to spend his final years in Florida, close to his sister and his family. The world is a little less dapper without him.
Herbert is survived by sister Linda Restivo, nieces Carolyn and Elizabeth Restivo, and nephew Michael Restivo.
