Helen Vega

Helen Zapata Vega of Deerfield Beach, FL, died on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 in Boca Raton. She was 82.

She was born in New York City on September 23, 1935, and grew up in the Bronx.  Devoting a lifetime of work to teaching, she was an active member of the United Federation of Teachers. After her husband Jose Antonio Vega’s death in 2004, she moved to Deerfield Beach with her daughter Yvonne, becoming an active and passionate member of the local Democratic Club.

She leaves behind her sisters Mary Delgado of Boca Raton, FL, Janet Mirailh of Coconut Creek, FL, son Jose Antonio Vega, Jr. of Old Bridge, N.J., daughter Yvette Ellen Vega of New York City, her partner Iva Zoric, their children Carlo and Sasha, as well as extended family and  friends in the United States and abroad. Yvonne Helen Vega died in 2011.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 11 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Boca Raton.
