Helen Dalton (née Joseph) "Sito" was called home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2026.
Born January 30, 1936 in Boston, MA, she was the vivacious youngest child of Mary Kanan and Michael Joseph both from small villages of present day northern Lebanon. Helen was very musically gifted. She was an extraordinary piano player who could replicate any tune by ear. She had a song for everything and could be heard humming around the house. She loved ice skating and playing tennis.
Helen worked alongside her brothers and sisters at her father's business, M. Joseph Sewing Machine Company in West Roxbury. She then resided in Norwood, MA with her first husband George Assim, raising their young family alongside her dear sisters-in-law Sally and Delal and their families. She always said her true calling was to be a mother and a grandmother (sito), starting in her younger years by caring for her nieces and nephews. She perfected the art of motherhood as the strong and loving matriarch of her family. Simmering pots of shish barak and batches of fresh spinach pies and sfeeha were always in the kitchen. Her late husband John Dalton was her soulmate and life partner. She loved their blended family and her stepsons John and Mike. She made many memories for the rest of her years taking cross country road trips and vacations to Hawaii. After the blizzard of ‘78 they moved the family to Florida, settling in Boca Raton. They enjoyed evenings out dancing and singing karaoke with her brother Arthur. Helen and John loved going out to play Bingo with countless friends. It was a great night if you heard Helen yell “Wee!!” across the bingo hall. She was a deft card player, hosting poker nights and theme parties with their large group of friends. They loved to take annual trips spending quality time with nieces Ginny and Diane. As a New England sports fan she loved watching Boston Red Sox games with crunchy snacks. In fact she had an incredible arm, she could've been a baseball player herself. Everyone who met her will remember her magnetic smile and twinkle in her eye. An Orthodox Christian, she had an unwavering faith in our Lord.
She returns home to the love of her life John, her parents, siblings Joseph, Nicholas, Arthur, Rose, Sarah, and Lillian. She will be deeply missed by her children, Linda Assim, Deborah Tutuianu and husband Felix, Susan Assim and Steven Assim; grandchildren Angelica Assim and Nicolas Tutuianu; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
