A Pioneer and Legend in the Liquid Asphalt Trading Industry

It is with profound sadness and deep respect that we announce the passing of Harry Sargeant, Jr. (Senior)—founder and former President of Sargeant Marine Inc.—who passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, at 2:20 AM in Boca Raton, Florida, at the age of 90.

Harry was born on September 29, 1934, in Paterson, New Jersey. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned 26 years. Rising through
the ranks, he retired with honor as a Lieutenant Commander in 1978.

Following his military service, Harry transitioned into the private sector, joining Asphalt International Inc. in 1978. In 1984, he founded Sargeant Marine Inc., starting with a single vessel - the Asphalt Trader. From those humble beginnings, Harry revolutionized the global distribution of liquid asphalt by pioneering the use of a specialized fleet of asphalt carriers. His forward-thinking approach set new standards in safety, efficiency, and reliability, fundamentally transforming the industry.

A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation

Known for his visionary leadership, unwavering integrity, and relentless commitment to excellence, Harry shaped not only a company but an entire industry. His mentorship and innovative spirit left a lasting impact on countless professionals around the world. He will be remembered not just as a remarkable leader, but as a cherished mentor, trusted colleague, and beloved friend.

Harry was a devoted and loving husband for 68 years to his wife, Janet Felice Sargeant. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and is survived by:

Grandson: Harry Sargeant IV, wife Morgan Sargeant
Great-granddaughter: P.J.
Great-grandson: Harry V
Grandson: Garrett Sargeant

Daughter: Cathy Sargeant Vidi, husband Vittorio J. Vidi, Jr.
Granddaughter: Jaclyn Vidi
Granddaughter: Janell Stewart, husband Jack Stewart
Great-grandson: Channing
Great-granddaughter: Gemma

Son: Daniel Sargeant, wife Madelyn Sargeant
Grandsons: Daniel Dalton Sargeant and Logan Sargeant

Son: James Sargeant, husband Jack Sargeant

Harry’s life was defined by service, leadership, and a deep love for family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Harry’s legacy lives on in the culture, values, and high standards that continue to guide Sargeant Marine Inc., as well as the wider asphalt industry. During this difficult time, our thoughts and
deepest sympathies are with his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
