George "Skip" Fowler Hunt, Jr. Obituary

George "Skip" Fowler Hunt, Jr., passed away peacefully, at age 86, in Punta Gorda, FL where he had lived for the past 30 years.

Skip, born in Philadelphia, PA, and began his life in West Orange, NJ, before moving to Wall Township at a very early age.  He was the son of George F. Hunt and Martha (Peg) Patterson Hunt of Hurley Pond, Wall, NJ.

Skip was a Boy Scout in Troop #104, Glendola/Wall Twp., and attended schools there, before going on to Harmon Hall School, in York Harbor, Maine, and Admiral Faragat Academy in Toms River, NJ.  He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1964.

Skip excelled in his sales career, earning awards and accolades, at the New Jersey Natural Gas Co., Asbury Park, NJ, Prudential Ins. Co., Newark NJ and as a recruiter for the DeVry University Woodbridge, NJ, and as a mortgage representative with Wells Fargo in Charlotte County.

Skip grew up riding his horses and his love for them carried throughout his life as he enjoyed watching the many televised races such as the Kentucky Derby and most recently the Haskill Races from Monmouth Park, NJ.

Sailing was skip's calling.  Carrying on the legacy of his father and grandfather.  He loved being on the water in Barnegat Bay, NJ and Charlotte Harbor, FL., and was a member of several yacht clubs along the way.  He also, enjoyed racing, especially his Hobie Cat in the 70's & 80's.  After moving to Florida in the mid 90's, Skip received his captains license, DAV-USCQ, from the US Coast Guard.

"Skipper", as was his familiar name, was a long time fan of the music of Jimmy Buffett, and became a revered member of the Charlotte Harbor Parrot Head Club, donating his many hours to raise money for the organizations they represented.

Skip leaves behind his wife, Carol, two sisters, Patti Tierney (Patrick) of Wall Twp, NJ and Gayle Hansen, Loxahatchee, FL and Boca Raton, FL.  Also, three nephews, Christopher Hansen, Boca Raton & Loxahatchee, FL, Rusty Tierney, Arizona, and Jeffrey Tierney (Kerrin) of Tinton Falls, NJ.

Throughout his life, Skip made lasting friends by way of his kindness, generosity and outgoing personality.  A host with the Most!  Always smiling!  He will be forever in our hearts. Happy trails and smooth sailing, Skip, and may you always have a following breeze.

He was also predeceased by his aunt and uncle, Gertrude M. (Mac) Evans and the Honorable Alton V. Evans, Long Branch, NJ, and cousin Patricia A. Evans of Bayhead, NJ and Boca Raton, FL.

Services were privately held and he was laid to rest at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida after a beautiful Honors Ceremony.
