George Edward Harland

July 1, 1931 – March 22, 2021

In loving memory of George E. Harland, we are saddened to announce his passing on March 22, 2021 at home in Boca Raton, Florida. George is survived by his “best buddy” and wife Joyce of 64 years, along with daughters Janna Cooper, and Lorrie Sorenson, and grandchildren Rob and Amanda Hoff, Sarah Foster, Kelsey Perkins, and their great grandchild Clara Foster. George was a loving husband, dad and Pupa, always caring for his family first.  He touched the lives of many others during his life as a loved and respected leader, colleague, mentor, teacher, friend and most important, as a child of God. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered; George was a privilege to know and love.

George was born and raised in the Detroit area, attending Royal Oak High School. He held a wide variety of jobs but his passion for automobiles led him to Chrysler Motor Company in 1957, and then to General Motors in 1962 where he spent the remainder of his career, which lasted more than 34 years with Cadillac Motor Car. His adventures with GM took him to Los Angeles, Detroit, Dallas, Memphis, Chicago and Newark. After his formal retirement, he continued to contribute by working with automotive businesses and with various churches as a staff member. Through every season of his life, George was a man of strong faith who made a difference for Jesus in each of the communities where he lived. For the last several years George and Joyce resided in Boca Raton, where he was grateful for a beautiful place to live, surrounded by wonderful friends and community.

Our family appreciates you joining us to celebrate George’s life and recall the fond memories he has left us.

We are so grateful for your thoughtful prayers, your cherished presence and your generous support in this sad time.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 pm on Sunday, April 11 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Boca Raton.

In lieu of flowers, George would have appreciated donations in his memory to St. Paul Lutheran Church (701 West Palmetto Park Rd., Boca Raton, FL.  33486).
