George Georges

George Georges, 93, of Boca Raton, Florida fell asleep in the Lord peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2019.

To all who knew him, George was a loving, kind and generous man. He was a wonderful father and grandfather – a role model for living a life of grace, compassion and selflessness. To the love of his life, Elly, his wife of 63 years, he was a devoted best friend and constant companion. Their love for each other was and is an inspiration to his family.

Born in Kearny, NJ, George was the son of Greek immigrants. The success he achieved in life epitomized the American Dream. As a young man he attended the Officer Training Program at Princeton University. He served two years as a Sergeant in the Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Upon his return, while attending Brooklyn College, he helped manage and grow the family restaurant business, a Bay Ridge Brooklyn locals’ favorite, The Green Tea Room.

George’s entrepreneurial ambitions led him to acquire the wholesale manufacturing company, Carlton Ice Cream of Brooklyn. He was joined by his brother, Jerry, and together they grew the company and enjoyed much success for decades. George went on to serve as President of the fine art printing company, Color Q of Dayton, Ohio. A company that he led to achieve national prominence in the industry.

During his career George earned a reputation as an honorable, hard-working, upstanding and highly respected member of the business community. In 1996 George retired to Boca Raton, Florida, a place he loved.

George was a devoted Greek Orthodox Christian and active with the Greek Orthodox community. He was one of the founders of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and an active member of the order of AHEPA in Florida. He was a faithful member of St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church of Boca Raton for over 20 years.

George will always be remembered for his congenial nature, his humble and generous spirit and willingness to help others. He believed in and exemplified honesty and integrity.

He is survived by his wife, Elly, his three children, Chrysanthe, Chris and Thomas, his daughter-in-laws, Stephanie and Cathie, his grandchildren, Gabriel, Sophia, Camarin, Serafina and Alex, his brother, Jerry and sister-in-law, Mary.   

A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22nd at St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church in Boca Raton. A funeral service will follow. An entombment will take place at The Gardens Memorial Park immediately after.
